What’s the Weather Like in Cali, Colombia?

Local Tips & What to Pack!

If you’ve ever heard someone call Cali “the city of eternal summer,” they’re not exaggerating.
Cali’s weather is one of the main reasons people fall in love with it: warm, tropical, and full of sunshine almost all year round. But if you’re planning your trip, it helps to know a few local details to make the most of your time here.

Average Weather in Cali

Cali is blessed with an average temperature of around 25°C (77°F) during the day and around 18°C (64°F) at night. It’s warm but not too hot just perfect for walking around, dancing salsa, or enjoying a cold beer outside.

Because the city sits in a valley, the air feels lighter than in other tropical cities. Still, humidity can surprise you, especially right before it rains.

💡 Local tip: Always carry a small bottle of water,  dehydration happens faster than you’d think when you’re dancing or walking under the sun.

Rainy and Dry Seasons

Cali doesn’t have four seasons like Europe or North America. Instead, we have two main weather patterns:

  • Dry season (December–March & July–August):
Perfect for sightseeing, day trips, and outdoor activities. The skies are usually clear and sunsets can be stunning from places like Cristo Rey or the hills of San Antonio.

  • Rainy season (April–June & September–November):
Don’t worry, it usually rains for an hour or two in the afternoon, not all day. Mornings often stay sunny, so you can still explore.

💡 Local tip: Pack a light rain jacket or small umbrella, especially if you’re visiting between April and November.

What to Wear in Cali

Locals love dressing fresh and casual. You’ll see people in shorts, dresses, t-shirts, and sandals almost everywhere.

Here’s a quick list of essentials:

  • Light clothes made from cotton or linen

  • Comfortable walking shoes or sandals

  • Sunglasses and sunscreen (the sun hits hard even on cloudy days!)

  • A light jacket for evenings or air-conditioned places

  • Swimsuit,  because pools and river trips are common here

💡 Local tip: Nights can get breezy, especially in the south or near the mountains. I always keep a thin hoodie or jacket in my backpack, just in case.

Best Time to Visit Cali

Honestly, you can visit any time of year — the weather is that stable.
But if you want to avoid rain and enjoy more events:

  • December is amazing because of the Feria de Cali, a week of pure salsa and celebration.

  • July–August are great for hiking and exploring the countryside around Cali.

💡 Local tip: If you visit in December, book accommodation early,  hotels fill up fast during the Feria.

Final Thoughts

Cali’s weather is one of its biggest gifts warm enough to make every day feel like a vacation. Whether you’re walking through San Antonio, heading to a salsa club, or exploring the rivers near Pance, the climate makes everything feel alive.

So pack light, bring your energy, and let the sun do the rest.
Welcome to Cali, la Sucursal del Cielo  where it’s always a good day to smile and dance. 💃☀️
